On the 29th of April, we had an inspector in from the Active School's Flag initiative to assess our school's progress in our application for the flag. He was highly impressed with our school's participation in a wide variety of sports across the six strands of athletics, games, aquatics, dance, gymnastics and orienteering. Our new initiatives such as the Slí na Sláinte around our Astro pitch with the "walk and talk" rule and the 6th class children participating in Playground Leaders with the 3rd class children on big yard left the Active School Flag assessor over impressed. We showed him that we here at St. Patrick's SNS are indeed an Active School!
There was huge interest in joining the Craft Club this year. It ran for 5 months as an after-school activity and in that time the children made friendship bracelets, learned to weave and knit and also made Christmas snowmen and Easter page markers. Some children also made hot-air balloons with woven baskets.
Over the Easter holidays, Ms. C. Kelly and Ms. N. Kelly ran a movie making camp for the children in our school. Firstly, children in the camp worked in groups to storyboard their ideas for their film. They then filmed, edited and created movies using iMovie on the iPads. On the last day of camp, there was a special red carpet event where the children who attended the camp got to showcase and premiere their masterpieces in front of all their friends and family. Some groups even made trailers for their movies.
